Manchester United target Josip Juranovic would find it hard to ‘turn down’ a move to Old Trafford, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.
The 27-year-old has been linked with a move away from Celtic throughout the summer following an outstanding maiden campaign in Scottish football.
What is the latest news involving Juranovic?
In June, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Juranovic was ‘expected to leave’ the Glasgow giants before the current window closes.
Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas then claimed that Atletico Madrid were interested in the Croatia international, but he claimed he ‘didn’t care’ about the speculation in a subsequent interview.
“I hope there was something in the stories, but honestly I didn’t even ask our manager or anything about it. I didn’t care,” Juranovic told RTL (via 90min).
“I have to keep my feet firmly on the ground. It was Atletico Madrid after all, but I’m at a big club already, Celtic.”
And a recent report from the Daily Mail has claimed that Juranovic has now come onto United’s radar, with Celtic likely to demand around £15 million for the full-back’s services.
What has O’Rourke said about Juranovic?
O’Rourke told GiveMeSport: “I think it’s hard for any player to turn down the chance to move to the Premier League, a chance to move to a top club like Manchester United, or Chelsea as well is a very hard proposition to resist.
“And obviously, the finances would be better for the player if he moved down to the Premier League, and also, his profile will be raised if he moved to English football as well.
“So, a lot to contend with, and unfortunately for Celtic, or anybody else in Scotland, they aren’t able to compete with the riches that are on offer in the Premier League.”
Where would Juranovic fit in?
Juranovic is a technically-gifted full-back capable of playing on either flank but has predominantly lined up on the right-hand side throughout his career.
The 5 foot 8 ace would provide cover and competition for Diogo Dalot in Erik ten Hag’s possession-orientated system at United and could replace the unwanted Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
As per WhoScored, Juranovic averaged 1.4 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 1.5 clearances and 1.2 crosses per league game throughout 2021/22, placing him in the top five for each metric amongst his teammates.
He could be a valuable addition to Ten Hag’s ranks at Old Trafford, therefore, helping the Dutch tactician to implement his style of play at United.
