Antony has been forced to interject after a row broke about between two rival agencies over his record-breaking £85.5m move from Ajax to Manchester United.
The Brazilian star agreed a move to Old Trafford in the closing days of the window. His move from Ajax – a club-record fee for the Eredivisie and United’s second costliest of all time – officially went through on deadline day. And Antony’s impact at United has been immediate; the player scoring a well-taken goal in Sunday’s 3-1 win over Arsenal.
His arrival at Old Trafford takes United’s summer spending through the £200m barrier. Indeed, he was the sixth new arrival of a hectic summer for new boss Erik ten Hag.
And it seems their business with Ajax is not done yet either with a third raid on the cards for another of their gems.
Ten Hag can now look forward with optimism with the success over the Gunners their fourth straight win. That lifts United up to fifth in the Premier League table.
However, it seems the transfer that took Antony away from Ajax has led to two agencies squabbling it over the move.
The Brazilian star is represented by Junior Pedroso’s Brazilian 4ComM agency.
However, Dutch agency Forza Sports Group claims they were responsibile for negotiating the deal. In a post on their Instagram page, they have spoken of their part in the “worldwide biggest transfer this year”.
They boldly claimed Forza how, as part of an “historic year so far”, they were the “transfer agent on the [€]100m record breaking deal of Ajax and worldwide biggest transfer this year of Antony”.
And despite their claims, 4ComM insists thye were the controlling party in the transfer.
Antony responds to agency claims over Man Utd transfer
That has resulted in Antony getting involved. The new United No 21 has hit out at Forza over their “joke”, insisting they played no part in his transfer.
“This must be a joke!??!!” the Brazil winger said, replying to Forza’s claims.
“After so much work by our team/family, an unknown person wants to take ownership of my transfer.
“I kindly ask you to delete my name from your publication, as YOU were not involved in the negotiations of my contract nor the negotiation of the transfer between the clubs #+respect.”
Pedroso has also hit out at the claims and made their stance clear to the Daily Telegraph.
“Since February we have been working very hard to make this transfer happen. Ajax knew we were on schedule. We were very honest and transparent. And what do we get in return? The surprise of a company wanting to appropriate our sweat.”
Forza has since been asked for their comments on the matter, while United are refusing to get involved.
Star looking to make big impact at Man Utd
The whole saga is an unnecessary distraction for Antony over what was an impressive debut for the Red Devils.
United’s fine start to the season has been built at the back, with Raphael Varane and Martinez forming a solid partnership; perhaps the finest at the club since Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.
However, the most buzz will be generated from Antony and all eyes will very much be on him as he looks to justify his huge fee.
Ten Hag hopes the Brazilian will provide the “missing link” in his attack.
There is no doubting the United boss will be thrilled to have seen his new signing make the start he did. That will instantly ease some of the pressure on both their shoulders.
And the player has already spoken of his joy at his goalscoring debut in front of a packed Old Trafford.
“I’ll never forget this day!” Antony said on Instagram after the game. “To United fans, all my affection for this reception! Let’s go for more! That’s just the beginning!”
