Aston Villa on red alert as Erik ten Hag’s Man Utd transfer wish list revealed

Aston Villa are interested in signing Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma this summer.

The Mali international was the subject of a big-money bid from Villa in January, but Brighton rejected their approaches. The south coast club were holding out for a bid north of £40million and Villa were unwilling to match their demands.

Bissouma is set to enter the final 12 months of his contract at the end of the season and will have a long list of suitors, including the likes of Arsenal. And recent reports claim that Manchester United could target Bissouma too, with Erik ten Hag in need to oversee an overhaul of the squad if he takes over in the summer.

The Daily Mail claim that United want to want to strengthen the spine of their team with a new centre-back, central midfielder and striker this summer. And Brighton’s Bissouma features on the club’s transfer with list.

The Villa target is named by the Mail amongst the likes of Declan Rice, Kalvin Phillips, Ruben Neves, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Aurelien Tchouameni. Villa midfielder John McGinn has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer by the Telegraph.

McGinn is said to be an alternative option if United fail to land their top targets, while the Manchester Evening News claim the club are progressing with a deal to bring in Leeds’ Phillips this summer too. The England international is a £60-million target for Villa.

Back to Bissouma and Villa boss Steven Gerrard has already hinted that he intends to make a move for the midfielder this summer after being knocked back in January. He said of the January window: “Incomings, the window was extremely strong. There were areas that we needed to find solutions for us to be stronger and better. We got 90/95% of business done that we wanted to get done in the window.

“I’m delighted with the support from the board. It was well documented that we put in a bid for Bissouma at Brighton which was turned away, and we respected and appreciated. If a move is not right then we will not become desperate and make a decisions that we do not think is right. If it’s not right at the time we might have to be patient in a few situations.”
