Bruno Fernandes makes prediction ahead of return for Man Utd pre-season

Bruno Fernandes has made a bold prediction ahead of his return to Manchester United for pre-season.

The Portuguese midfielder will re-join his team-mates in Manchester after being given some extra time off following his countries disappointing last-16 exit at Euro 2020.

Portugal had been tipped to go far in the tournament given the vast array of talent at their disposal however, they fell short after being dumped out by Belgium.

Fernandes posted a photo of him on a boat in a post captioned: “Seeing good things coming in the new season.”

The midfielder returned to his boyhood club Boavista for some additional training ahead of his return to Old Trafford to start pre-season.

Fernandes’ recent post comes after he also used social media to welcome new team-mate Jadon Sancho to the club.

The England international arrives from German giants Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth £73million.

Fernandes tweeted: “Welcome to the club @Sanchooo10. I look forward to playing together. Old Trafford are you ready?” alongside a red emblem and a happy face emoji.

The club have also reportedly reached a breakthrough agreement with Real Madrid over the transfer of Raphael Varane.

United will look forward to the return of their Portuguese star after a disappointing 4-2 defeat against QPR in a friendly on Saturday.

The defeat follows their 2-1 victory over Derby in the clubs first pre-season fixture of the season.

Fernandes had an impressive season at United during the last campaign, ending with 18 Premier League goals and 12 assists.

The midfielder was third in the scoring charts behind Golden Boot winner Harry Kane and Mohamed Salah.

Although he impressed for United, the midfielder endured a tough summer with Portugal at the European Championship.

In fact, his performances were a concern for Red Devils hero Roy Keane, who claimed the midfielder looked leggy.

Keane said United’s talisman looked tired – with Ian Wright agreeing.

“There are other options instead of Fernandes,” Keane said on ITV during the game, as he pondered the possibility of a penalty shootout.

“His body language hasn’t been great and the worry for Portugal will be if it turns into a shootout, he has plenty of players to call upon.”

Wright said the difference was clear to see between Fernandes and Manchester City star Kevin de Bruyne, whose club has more options to rotate him.

“Fernandes has played so many games this season,” said the former Arsenal striker. “He is looking very tired during this competition and you can tell the difference with De Bruyne.”

Despite Wright and Keane’s fears, Fernandes will be hoping a much-needed rest will help him hit the ground running when he returns to United.

Up next for the Red Devils is a friendly against Brentford at Old Trafford, before they travel to Deepdale to face Preston, followed by their final preseason fixture against Everton.

The English giants will then welcome Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United on the opening day of the Premier League season.

United will be looking to improve on their impressive second-placed finish last season and Fernandes will continue to play a crucial role in their success.
