Chelsea ‘ready’ to swoop for Man Utd star

All the latest transfer news and speculation involving Manchester United.

The Red Devils’ top-flight clash with Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon has been postponed as a mark of respect in the aftermath of the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

United’s last outing came on Thursday evening in the Europa League against Real Sociedad.

But while there is no action to discuss on the pitch, there is still plenty going on in the gossip columns.

With that in mind, here is Saturday lunchtime’s United-related transfer roundup…

Felix plays down United links

Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix has claimed that he ‘didn’t hear anything’ in relation to a potential move to Old Trafford during the summer transfer window.

The Portugal international was one of a number of high-profile reported targets who came and went as United looked to reinforce their attacking options in the latter stages of the market.

Ultimately, Erik ten Hag was able to bring in his preferred option in the form of Ajax winger Antony, and Felix has since suggested that he was unaware of the Red Devils’ apparent interest.

When asked by Marca about reports linking him with a £113 million to Manchester, he replied: “I didn’t hear anything. That was something for the president to deal with. I am here.”

Felix has previously stirred up speculation by making a series of flattering comments about United talisman – and Portugal team-mate – Bruno Fernandes.

As quoted by the Manchester Evening News, he said: “Bruno is a very, very good player. It is very easy to play with him.

“When he has the ball, he always chooses the best option, to give you a chance to score. That is why he gets a lot of assists.”

Chelsea eye Rashford

Chelsea are among the clubs who could look to sign Marcus Rashford if the United forward fails to agree a new contract, according to La Repubblica, via CalcioMercato.

The England international has entered the final year of his contract at Old Trafford, and as yet, has not put pen to paper on an extension with his boyhood club.

Rashford has shown a drastic upturn in form of late, and looks to be a central part of Erik ten Hag’s plans having registered three goals and two assists in his first six Premier League matches this season.

Indeed, it has led to speculation he could sign a new long-term deal at Old Trafford.

But should negotiations falter for any reason, it is suggested that both Chelsea and Atletio Madrid are ‘ready’ to capitalise on the situation by attempting to sign the 24-year-old on a free transfer.
