EXCLUSIVE: Manchester United are rumoured to be plotting a huge move for a striker next summer but with rumours again circulating about Cristiano Ronaldo, they could be even stronger
Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked with a move away from Juventus this summer after increased speculation casted doubts over his future with the club.
Both Manchester United and Real Madrid were inevitably linked with a homecoming for the 36-year-old, but fans got excited when rumours of Manchester City and Paris Saint Germain circulated.
Ronaldo has been linked with a move back to Old Trafford on and off for almost a decade, although the move has never looked likely, but it still doesn’t rule out the possibility of a sensational return.
The Portuguese ace is one of the greatest of all time, and could complete a star-studded United side in their bid for the title.
These are the exact views of former United ace Lee Sharpe who was speaking in conjunction with William Hill, and told Mirror Sport: “I think signing Ronaldo will be the icing on the cake. I think if he was to come back as the no.9, he would be phenomenal.”
Sharpe revealed that a return was unlikely, but there’s always a possibility due to Ronaldo’s connections, saying: “I wouldn’t have thought he’d come back but then again, I wouldn’t be surprised if he did. I think he’s got such a connection with the club.”
The former United star detailed that Ronaldo wouldn’t just add to the United team on the field, but also would be a huge asset behind the scenes, continuing: “He would be phenomenal, not just on the pitch but in the dressing room, for the players and the young players around him.
“I think he would give people that edge of what it takes to win, what it takes to be a great player.”

Sharpe explained that he, along with all other United fans, would love to see the reunion at Old Trafford: “I’d love to see him back go back but I’m not sure it’s something that’s on his satellite at the moment, but let’s keep our fingers crossed.
“I’d love to see that with the lads they’ve got already, it would be a phenomenal team to watch.”
Ronaldo evolved into a superstar at United after arriving from Sporting Lisbon as a 17-year-old, and has gone on to achieve greatness, swooping up the Ballon D’or five times in his career, and becoming Real Madrid and Portugal’s all-time top goalscorer following his exit from Old Trafford.
The decorated forward has shared the stage at the very top with Lionel Messi for a generation, and following the Argentine’s move this summer, it sparked speculation that Ronaldo may also switch clubs as he nears the end of his playing career.
However, when quizzed on his future at Juventus, Ronaldo said: “I remain focused on my career and in my work, committed and prepared for all the challenges that I have to face.”
