Declan Rice: All you need to know about Man Utd and Chelsea target

Declan Rice has lifted the lid on his ambitions to “win it all” – opening the door for a summer switch away from West Ham.

Rice has evolved into one of the Premier League’s most complete midfielders over the past 18 months.

His form for the Hammers has also seen him become a regular for the England national team, whilst the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United have been persistently linked with making big-money bids for the 23-year-old.

David Moyes recently claimed that it would take “humungous money” to prise Rice away from the Londoners – with a figure in excess of £100million mooted.

But Rice’s suitors will have been left enthused by his comments during an extensive interview with Gary Neville, where stressed his desire to win titles.

Declan Rice has opened up on his ambitions to “win it all” in football

“I think the main one for me as I have always said it is that I don’t want to have a career where I’ve not won [anything],” Rice told The Overlap.

“I’ve grown up as a kid and saw players like yourself [Neville] win the Premier Leagues and Champions Leagues. Me, as a football fan and also as a player, I want to win the best stuff.

“I want to win the Premier League and lift that trophy, I want to win the Champions Leagues and the FA Cups and the League Cups and even the stuff with England, I want to win it all.

“As a footballer, If you haven’t got that ambition then why are you playing?

“They are the best moments of your life when you win those types of trophies, them special days even though I haven’t won anything yet but the thought of what that day would be like, the night after, I want to experience that feeling of winning those big trophies.

“And the only way to do that is to be the best I can be.”

While the Hammers are still well-positioned to maintain their unlikely bid to secure Champions League football, it’s anticipated that West Ham’s stance on Rice will be tested in the summer.

United reportedly see Rice as the perfect fit solution to their long-term midfield woes, while Chelsea have held a long-term interest in the star, who was on the Blues books in his youth.

But Rice was released by the Londoners as a teenager before rebounding at West Ham.

It remains to be seen, however, if the lure of wrapping up some unfinished business at Stamford Bridge could hand Chelsea the initiative in the race for Rice’s signature.

Rice spent time on Chelsea’s books as a child

“Extremely tough, being released at 14 by Chelsea,” Rice added.

“[It was] something I didn’t expect at all, it was all I ever knew as a kid, it was my whole life, going there, training, the mates I met.

“I felt like that was it, I was gutted, I remember my dad coming home and telling me that was it.

“That night I got released, I went and trained with Fulham on Wednesday and then on Thursday I was with West Ham. My dad drove me to Chapel Heath and I was gutted but I needed to kick on and push again.”
