The Manchester United squad are pleased that they have clarity regarding their next manager ahead of the summer, according to Diogo Dalot.

Erik ten Hag has been announced as the next Red Devils boss, taking over in the coming months once he finishes this season with Ajax. United had been on the lookout for a permanent coach since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s dismissal earlier this season. Ralf Rangnick was in charge on an interim basis, but the uncertainty was proving an issue.

Ten Hag was among the frontrunners alongside Mauricio Pochettino, but has won the race for the post. Several players in the United dressing room have underperformed and wholesale changes are expected in the summer. Ten Hag will want his own players whilst he is also set to implement his own style.

Dalot admits, ahead of the summer, that knowing what to expect going forward is a huge plus. He told Sky Sports : “In our heads, it’s going to be clear who the manager will be next season and that’s good, because we go for our break … knowing who to expect. Then we’ll have time in pre-season to work together, get our ideas right and start the new season.”

The right-back is among the big winners of this season’s change in the dugout. He was behind Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the pecking order but the former Crystal Palace man has since seen his stock fall which has allowed Dalot to assume the right-back role.

United’s poor year, which will no doubt see them miss out on Champions League football, means several players are set to be axed. Ten Hag was particularly scathing about the state of affairs at Old Trafford when interview for the job, according to reports.

However his vision is said to have impressed the club’s hierarchy. He said upon his appointment: “It is a great honour to be appointed manager of Manchester United and I am hugely excited by the challenge ahead. I know the history of this great club and the passion of the fans, and I am absolutely determined to develop a team capable of delivering the success they deserve.”

Ten Hag is set to be without the likes of Edinson Cavani, Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic – all of whom will see their contracts expire in a matter of months. Several first team regulars could also have their roles placed under threat with the Dutchman’s philosophy of stark contrast to those implemented recently.

Rangnick said on Ten Hag’s imminent arrival: “Knowing Erik will be the manager, with a good recruitment process and bringing in the right players, I’m very positive the supporters and the media will be able to see a better team and, at the end, hopefully a better position in the league.”
