Former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster has snubbed David de Gea and named Alisson Becker, Ederson, Jose Sa, and Aaron Ramsdale as the four best goalkeepers of the current Premier League campaign.
De Gea has been a very bright light in an otherwise desperate season for the Red Devils. While Ralf Rangnick’s sides’ hopes for Champions League qualification appear to be over, the Spaniard, alongside Cristiano Ronaldo at the other end, has almost single handily kept United in the race for the top four.
This campaign could arguably be labelled one for redemption for the experienced shot-stopper, after he finished the previous campaign behind Dean Henderson and having missed the crucial penalty in the Europa League final defeat to Villarreal. But despite De Gea’s heroics, Foster believes the Liverpool, Manchester City, Wolves, and Arsenal goalkeepers have enjoyed better campaigns.
“I’ve had to streamline it to four goalkeepers,” Foster said on the Fozcast Podcast when asked about De Gea’s absence. I could have gone for about five more as well I could have put Islan Meslier and Hugo Lloris for an honourable mention.
“I could have kept going on the honourable mentions forever. But even though a lot of people are going to say to me ‘oh you’re going to go for the big boy, you’re going to go for the big name’, I have to go for Alisson – I just think he’s the full package.”
Alisson has enjoyed another imperious season in the Liverpool goal this season, making the most amount of one-on-one saves in the Premier League to date. The Brazilian has managed to keep 20 clean sheets during Jurgen Klopp’s side’s incredible Quadruple chasing season.

But while the former Roma ace has enjoyed another huge campaign, Foster did add an extra special mention to Ramsdale. “Ramsdale has been incredible,” Foster added.
“What he has had to contend with, signing for a massive team like Arsenal, getting Bernd Leno out of the way, getting signed for £30million with a lot of people mad things about them wasting money on him, he’s proved everybody wrong. Everybody can now see he’s a proper quality goalkeeper.”
