Benjamin Sesko is the latest forward to be linked with a move to Manchester United this summer and Fabrizio Romano has provided an important update on the Red Devils’ pursuit of the Red Bull Salzburg striker.
Sesko has been linked with the likes of Bayern Munich, Newcastle United and Spurs in recent weeks but recent reports have suggested that Erik ten Hag’s United could enter the race for his signature.
The 19-year-old Slovenia international was ridiculously prolific at youth level in his homeland and has been compared by some to former Salzburg forward Erling Haaland.
He has continued his rapid rise since being spotted by Red Bull’s world-famous scouting team and signing for Salzburg three years ago, scoring 11 goals last term and looks set to be their main striker this year following the sale of Karim Adeyemi to Borussia Dortmund.
“We had a lot of offers from really big clubs,” Sesko’s agent Elvis Basanovic told SPOX about why they originally decided to join Salzburg when he was just 16 three years ago.
“Had we decided on the money, Benjamin would have moved to England or Italy. But we decided to look at the bigger picture and the Salzburg project.
“The biggest clubs in Europe tried to get him. The interest in him was huge; I have never seen anything like it before.
“Salzburg has given Benjamin a path. Here, he can develop. The people in charge really wanted him, which was important to us. Here he also has a greater chance of playing for the first team sooner or later.”
And Sesko’s reputation has grown further during pre-season after an immense performance during Salzburg’s 1-0 win over Liverpool.
The young striker scored the only goal of the game and bewitched both James Milner and Curtis Jones with a sensational piece of skill.
Now Italian journalist and transfer expert Romano has given the latest on Manchester United’s interest in Sesko.
“As I said a few days ago, Manchester United have a concrete interest in Sesko”, Romano said on his YouTube channel. United have had direct contact with the player’s agent and he is one of the players they are considering.
“The problem is, on Sesko’s side, is Red Bull Salzburg’s stance has always been very clear. Many clubs, not just United, have approached Salzburg and their answer has been that they want to sell Sesko in the summer of 2023.
“So United will need a massive bid if they want to sign Sesko immediately because Salzburg wish to keep him for one more season and sell him next summer.
“Not an easy situation, but Sesko is still a player that United are considering alongside many others.”
