It’s time to put down the presents, move the Christmas dinner leftovers aside and cure those hangovers. Boxing Day has arrived, meaning that after a six-week hiatus, the Premier League is back at our stadiums and on our screens. And with it, the FPL GW17 deadline is looming large.
Express Sport is here to provide the latest FPL injury news so you can complete those transfers before 11pm!
Mikel Arteta has labelled Gabriel Jesus’ knee injury a ‘huge blow’ to Arsenal’s title hopes, while Reiss Nelson is also ruled out. The Brazilian forward will miss the festive fixtures, but World Cup finalist William Saliba is the only Gunners star involved in the Qatar tournament unavailable.
Chelsea have received a big boost ahead of their return to action, with Graham Potter confirming Reece James played 65 minutes in a midweek friendly. Wesley Fofana, Armando Broja, N’Golo Kante, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ben Chilwell are all out, while Hakim Ziyech and Mateo Kovacic are yet to return from World Cup duty.

Liverpool are without Arthur, Diogo Jota and Luiz Diaz for the long run, while Roberto Firmino and James Milner are expected to miss the festive fixtures. Ibrahima Konate hasn’t yet returned from France duty, while Trent Alexander-Arnold missed the Carabao Cup defeat at Manchester City. He has been assessed late but must be considered a doubt for Aston Villa today.
Ruben Dias and Kalvin Phillips won’t feature in GW17 due to hamstring and fitness issues, respectively. Julian Alvarez also won’t be in action against Leeds United after being given time off to celebrate Argentina’s World Cup triumph. Erling Haaland scored just 10 minutes into City’s return in midweek, and Kevin De Bruyne’s performance also makes him hard to ignore.

Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane are unavailable for Manchester United when Nottingham Forest visit Old Trafford tomorrow. And Erik ten Hag also faces uncertainty over Harry Maguire, who missed the midweek win over Burnley through illness, and Diogo Dalot, nursing a hamstring injury. Jadon Sancho will also be absent.
Ivan Perisic has boosted Antonio Conte by returning from World Cup duty already, despite Croatia reaching last Saturday’s third-place play-off. However, it’s a mixed bag, with Cristian Romero still with Argentina and Hugo Lloris only likely to be ready for the bench, meaning Fraser Forster is set to start. Richarlison is set to be out for another month.
Around the league
Around the league, there are plenty of other popular picks currently doubtful or ruled out. Fulham boss Marco Silva has confirmed Aleksandar Mitrovic is a doubt after a reoccurrence of a foot problem. Newcastle will be without Alexander Isak (thigh), but Eddie Howe hopes to have Allan Saint-Maximin as an option off the bench.
James Maddison (knee) will be assessed late. Gianluca Scamacca, Michail Antonio, Jack Harrison, Rodrigo, Patrick Bamford and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are also doubts. Conor Coady is illegible for Everton against his parent club Wolves.
