Gary Neville’s prediction about Man Utd, Liverpool & Salah in 2019

Gary Neville is one of the best pundits in England right now.

The Man United legend is extremely knowledgable of the game and he’s able to convey what he sees in an effective manner.

He’s also very passionate about the sport and always speaks his mind, regardless of whether he ruffles a few feathers or not.

However, Neville doesn’t always get things right.

Being a pundit is risky as you can end up having a strong opinion about something and then looking silly.

And a video has re-emerged on Twitter showing one instance where Neville was badly wrong about something.

Before the 2019/20 season, Neville appeared on Sky Bet’s big season debate alongside Jamie Carragher.

Liverpool had just finished second in the Premier League with 97 points.

Manchester United, meanwhile, finished a further 31 points back in sixth.

But, despite the considerable gulf between the two clubs, Neville uttered his belief that United would win the Premier League title before Liverpool.

Not only that, but he then was adamant that Liverpool’s talisman, Mohamed Salah, would leave the club.

He said: “Eventually they will stumble upon the right recruitment system, the right recruitment people, they’ll get a great manager – hopefully that’s Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] – and they’ll start to win again. That’s going to happen.

“I can guarantee you as clear as day, Manchester United will win again. They’ll probably win the league before Liverpool, in my opinion. And that’s not being disrespectful, they’ll probably win the league before Liverpool.”

Turning his attention to Salah, Neville then added: “And Liverpool, Salah’s going to leave in the next 12 months, I can see it already. He [Carragher] knows, he won’t say it. I can see it, you can feel it, you can smell it.”

Fast forward three years and Neville’s comments haven’t aged well at all.

Liverpool ended up winning the Premier League that season, while United haven’t been close to challenging for the title.

In fact, the Red Devils haven’t won a single trophy since then.

While Salah is still at Liverpool and has scored 77 for the Reds since then.

Salah only has 18 months left on his current deal, though, and Liverpool have so far been frustrated in their attempts to tie him to a longer deal.
