Glazers now ‘really invested’ in Ten Hag at Old Trafford

Manchester United‘s board are desperate for Erik ten Hag‘s appointment to work out, believes journalist Steve Bates.

After a tough start to life at Old Trafford, things are now going pretty well for the Dutchman, and Bates thinks he could end up being a really good fit for the Red Devils.

Man United news – Erik ten Hag

Ten Hag, who lost his first two games in charge, has been speaking about the state United’s squad was in when he found it.

“There was no spirit in it [the dressing room]. I didn’t see any team dynamics in the team,” the 52-year-old recently told Voetbal International.

“The mental toughness was very low. The fighting spirit, for each other, prioritising the team, that wasn’t really in this squad. Changing the culture was the most important thing for me.”

United now look to be in a much better place under Ten Hag, though, with the Manchester club currently sitting just three points behind the final Champions League spot with a game in hand.

What has Steve Bates said about Man United and Erik ten Hag?

Bates thinks the Glazers and the rest of the United board are eager for Ten Hag to be a success at Old Trafford.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, the journalist said: “It appears they’re really invested in him, and I think there’s a real desire within the boardroom to make this work. They have to make it work. They can’t keep failing in terms of managerial recruitment, and I think this one has got the feel of it being the right fit.”

Erik ten Hag’s tactics

As shown on Transfermarkt, Ten Hag has mostly used a 4-2-3-1 formation this season, which looks to be working for him.

In that set-up, United have picked up wins against some of the biggest clubs in the country, including league leaders Arsenal.

Wayne Rooney - Manchester United

Which year did Wayne Rooney leave Manchester United?

Under the former Ajax manager, the Red Devils have also been one of the more dominant sides in the English top flight, with WhoScored showing that their average ball possession is 51.8%, which leaves them just outside of the top five for that statistic.

All in all, the early signs under Ten Hag have been good. He has also managed to convince two really top players in Casemiro and Christian Eriksen to join the club, so United fans can be pleased with the overall job he has done at Old Trafford so far.

Given where United were when he arrived, if they manage to claim a top-four spot come the end of the season, supporters will probably not have too many complaints.
