Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire has detailed the qualities he believes are needed in order to be a successful captain.
The United defender has held the armband since he was given the role by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer shortly after his 2019 move from Leicester City. Maguire has been a mainstay for club and country since his arrival at Old Trafford.
This campaign has been disappointing from a United perspective as they have failed to build on their second-place finish last season. As a result of poor form and performances, Maguire has been heavily criticised, with some even suggesting he should be stripped of the captaincy.

“You’ve got to be responsible on the pitch but also off it,” he said, speaking to Wow Hydrate. “You can’t be turning up late, you’ve got to be one of the first in the training ground.
“You have to be seen doing the extra bits, in the gym. On the pitch, you want consistency, you want availability and I think both are equally as important to any captain in any team.
“You’ve got to be disciplined in a lot of areas off the pitch but on the pitch as well,” he added. “You can’t be rash, you can’t be getting silly red cards all the time or being dragged out of positions.”
