Paul Pogba’s time in his second spell at Manchester United has never really lived up to expectations, and Ian Wright has pointed out where it may have gone wrong
Ian Wright has sent a clear transfer message to Manchester United by highlighting their mistake with Paul Pogba.
France midfielder Pogba is out of contract at the end of the season, and it remains unclear whether he will remain at Old Trafford.
The 28-year-old is still nursing a hamstring injury that has kept him out of the entire Ralf Ragnick reign, further casting doubt over his future.
Pogba has showed his exceptional talent at times this season, notching up four assists in the opening day thrashing of Leeds.
But his struggles to adapt to the deeper midfield role often saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer struggling to get the best out of Pogba.
And Arsenal legend Ian Wright has pointed out how Pogba was never really the right fit for United as he needs to play with freedom to express himself.
That is the polar opposite of Virgil van Dijk, Wright believes, who quickly established himself as one of the best centre-halves in the world after his £75m move, because he was a perfect fit at Liverpool.
Wright told Premier League productions: “You can look at Pogba’s signing.

“You look at Pogba, he’s not a six, he’s not an eight and not a 10.
“He is a player we saw when he played for Juventus, on the left, with a very well-balanced midfield and played with freedom. Aaron Ramsey, the same kind of player. He plays with freedom. You need the right players.
“That is where people are buying the wrong type of player without fitting them in. This is where the Virgil van Dijk signing is absolutely perfect.
“That’s why they would have paid another £25m for him – you look at how Virgil was playing for Celtic, he is playing exactly the same now.
“This is why all of the top teams have missed out on a player that was showing, the fact that he was playing in a league that wasn’t as good as the Premier League, but Liverpool have benefited from it.”
United could yet see Paul Pogba sign a new deal and remain at Old Trafford beyond this summer.
Real Madrid, Juventus and PSG have all been touted as possible destinations this summer with Pogba available for nothing.
Now though, in an incredible turn of events, there could be a scenario that ends with the 28-year-old still wearing red next term, according to The Sun.
