Juventus and a host of top European clubs have registered an interest in signing want-away Manchester United star Jesse Lingard.

Lingard, 29, has made up his mind to quit Old Trafford when his contract expires at the end of the season after becoming frustrated at a lack of game time. England midfielder Lingard has had several offers with Juventus, Newcastle, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain all interested and at least two of them have held serious negotiations.

Incoming United boss Erik ten Hag is arriving at Old Trafford this summer but they are now wasting their time in trying to keep him, with Lingard disillusioned by the way he has been treated by the club he loves and joined at nine years old. Lingard was denied one last farewell appearance at Old Trafford on Monday night as he was called up to the squad – but then interim boss Ralf Rangnick left him on the bench.

That only soured relations further as Lingard has always maintained a strong relationship and respect with the United fans. Lingard’s brother Louie hit out at Rangnick and the club in an Instagram post after the match, calling them “classless.” Lingard has played 232 times for the club and has scored 35 goals, one of which won the FA Cup for United in 2016.

The United academy graduate could have left last summer when Newcastle tried to sign him, but former boss Ole Gunnar Solakjaer assured him he would get game time. However, Lingard started just once under Solskjaer and three times since Rangnick took over in November. Newcastle wanted to sign Lingard last summer, were ready to do a deal but then baulked at United’s demands for a £2.5m loan fee.

Key to Lingard’s decision to move on is a desire to get back into the England set-up as he was part of Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad in 2018. He also got back into the England set-up last season after a loan spell at West Ham helped revive his career and his last appearance came last October in the 5-0 away win over Andorra.
