Marcelo Bielsa and Manchester United would be an ideal fit for one another.

That’s the bold view of former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino, who is a huge fan of the Leeds boss’ brand of football.

Leeds and rivals United meet at Elland Road this afternoon with both sides in desperate need of points at each end of the table.

With United on the lookout for a new permanent manager to replace interim boss Ralf Rangick in the summer, Cascarino has stoked the fire by suggesting Bielsa be a possible option – a move that would not be welcomed by Leeds fans.

‘I personally love his brand of football,’ Cascarino told talkSPORT. ‘I think he’d be an incredible fit at Manchester United.

‘The reason he doesn’t stay at football clubs or doesn’t commit to them is because he only sees his job year by year and no more.

‘I think Bielsa gets a raw deal in many ways. ‘Think of Leeds before Bielsa walked through the door and look where they are now.

‘Are they ever going to compete with Man City, Liverpool, Manchester United, clubs that spend huge amounts of money on wages? No he’s not but he produces very, very effective teams.

‘He’s done it in a very different way in many different places and in different countries.’

Bielsa is under contract with Leeds until the summer but is under pressure to keep them in the Premier League given a poor first half of the season that leaves them 15th in the table.

United sit fourth in the table and know they can’t afford to drop points at Elland Road with Arsenal now one point behind with games in hand following their win over Brentford on Saturday.
