Lionel Messi predicted Cristiano Ronaldo would endure a ‘difficult’ time at Manchester United due to the uncertain nature of the Premier League.
Both players secured moves last summer with Ronaldo granted his romantic homecoming and Messi heading to European giants Paris Saint-Germain.
Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford had all the hallmarks of a fairytale as United looked to build on their second-place finish in the Premier League last season.
However, United’s hopes of a title tilt were soon dashed and they now find themselves battling for a place in the top four, with many taking the chance to point the finger at Ronaldo for the club’s struggles.

And it seems his old rival Messi predicted he’d endure a bumpy ride back at Old Trafford.
Messi said to Marca after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking in November: ” United are a very strong team with great players. Cristiano already knew the club, but that was at another stage and now he has adapted in an impressive way.
“From the beginning, he has scored goals as always and had no problems adapting. In the Premier League, it is not as good as we all thought, but it is a very difficult and even competition in which things take a lot of turns.
“After December it changes a lot and anything can happen.”
