Liverpool in ‘dispute’ with Man Utd as Premier League duo battle for £30m-rated winger

According to reports, Liverpool and Manchester United are in a ‘dispute’ over Ajax winger Antony as both clubs want to sign him this summer.

The Brazilian has been with Ajax since the start of 2020. The fee they paid Sao Paulo for him could rise to over £18m with add-ons.

Antony has been involved in 44 goals from his 79 appearances for Ajax. He has been in fine form this season as the Dutch side have lifted the Eredivisie title.

UOL (via Sport Witness) are reporting that Liverpool and Man Utd are in a ‘dispute’ over Antony’s services.

It is said that the player ‘prefers’ a move to the Premier League. United are believed to ‘have an advantage’ considering that Antony’s former manager – Erik ten Hag – is taking over this summer.

The report adds that Newcastle are also interested in Antony but they are ‘underdogs’ compared to Liverpool and United. It has previously been suggested that ‘at least €35m (£30m) is needed’ to sign him this summer.

Elsewhere, Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Liverpool are interested in Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe.

A move to Liverpool has long seemed unrealistic because of the huge wages Mbappe would demand on any move away from Paris – but Klopp said on Monday that the Reds “are interested”.

Klopp said: “Of course we are interested in Kylian Mbappe – we are not blind.”

However, the Liverpool boss immediately played down any chance that the 23-year-old would actually sign for the Premier League side as they “cannot be part of these battles”.

Klopp added: “Actually, I have nothing to say about that but between Kylian and Liverpool, it’s all set, it’s all fine.

“We of course like him and if you don’t like him then you have to question yourself. But, no, we are not going to sign him, we cannot be part of these battles.

“There must be other clubs involved and that is fine. He is a great player.”

Klopp has also revealed that Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk will both miss Liverpool’s crucial Premier League match against Southampton tonight.

Asked if either could play at St Mary’s, Klopp said: “No. They are both OK, so the target for both would be they could be involved again at the weekend.

“It’s very positive, (there is) no doubt about the final and we’re realistic about the Wolves game (on Sunday), but for tomorrow, (we’d) rather not.”
