Liverpool on collision course with Man Utd as both clubs converge on €60m-rated Aurelien Tchouameni

Man Utd and Liverpool could meet in the transfer market after a report detailed their respective interest levels in Monaco ace Aurelien Tchouameni.

The 22-year-old Monaco midfielder is quickly developing a reputation for being an attacker’s worst nightmare. Indeed, Tchouameni has been a one-man brick wall in Ligue 1 in recent seasons. In the current campaign, he comfortably leads the way with regards to combined number of tackles and interceptions from an individual player.

That level of performance should translate well into the faster-paced Premier League where opportunities to get a foot in and disrupt play are more prevalent.

He has been linked with Premier League trio Man Utd, Chelsea and Liverpool in the past. However, given the Blues’ off-field turmoil, they are unlikely to be involved in the conversation this summer.

Now, a report from Spanish outlet Marca has shed light on what the future could hold for Tchouameni.

The article focuses on Real Madrid’s interest. Los Blancos too are following Tchouamani’s progress and view him as a long-term successor to Casemiro.

However, their focus will be on Kylian Mbappe this summer. The lethal marksman would require a giant salary commitment as well as substantial sign-on fee to move to the Bernabeu.

As such, the door could be left ajar for Liverpool or United to strike. What’s more, the report states both clubs ‘have asked’ about his availability this summer. From the player’s end, he is deemed receptive to the idea of joining one of England’s two biggest clubs.

Tchouameni Premier League-bound?

Indeed, Tchouameni is described as ‘aiming for the Premier League’. Whether that would be this summer of beyond, only time will tell.

French outlet Le 10 Sport previously reported Tchouameni may favour a move after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. That tournament is due to take place during the winter, and Tchouemani does not want to risk his starting berth by moving to a club where he might not be a regular starter straight away.

Tchouameni is competing with the likes of N’Golo Kante for a holding berth in Didier Deschamps’ engine room. Given that extremely high level of competition, his reasoning is understandable.

However, Marca note Monaco’s business model requires regular player churn. In their words, it would not be a surprise if Monaco cashed in this summer to the highest bidder.

Juventus are also reportedly in the mix, though Tchouameni does not favour a move to Italy.

On paper, a move to Old Trafford would seem the better fit. Displacing Fabinho in Liverpool’s midfield would be an almighty struggle from day one. Getting in ahead of Fred or Scott McTominay at United would be an altogether more realistic prospect.

What’s more, Paul Pogba is due to leave as a free agent in the summer and Nemanja Matic’s best days are behind him at 33.

A move to Old Trafford could therefore be a perfect fit for both club and player, though with a €60m price tag, he won’t come cheap.
