Man Utd ace Bruno Fernandes to break £200,000-a-week barrier with new contract ‘very close’

Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes is reportedly on the verge of signing a new contract which will see him break the £200,000-a-week mark.

Fernandes left Sporting in January 2020 to join the Red Devils. His transfer cost United up to £68million, although it has proven to be an inspired one.

The attacking midfielder held a record of 12 goals and eight assists in 22 matches after his first six months at Old Trafford.

Fernandes enjoyed another stellar campaign last term, registering 28 goals and 17 assists in all competitions. That form helped United to finish second in the league and reach the Europa League final. However, they lost to Villarreal in a dramatic penalty shoot-out.

Things have not gone as smoothly for Fernandes this time around. He has come in for criticism while trying to get used to Ralf Rangnick’s system.

A recent report claimed the Portugal international is causing ‘anarchy’ in the United camp. This stems from him apparently being ‘uncoachable’ while training.

Fernandes is seemingly attempting to raise the standards among his team-mates, only for this to cause even more problems.

Bruno Fernandes renewal ‘very close’

However, it seems United officials remain happy with the 27-year-old playmaker. According to Sport Witness, who cite reports in Portugal, Fernandes is ‘very close’ to agreeing a new deal with the Manchester outfit.

United chiefs are having regular meetings with Fernandes’ agent, Miguel Pinho. Those talks have ‘intensified’ recently, leading to a breakthrough.

The new deal will see Fernandes extend his spell at United from 2025 to 2027. And he is in line for a major pay rise, too.

Fernandes currently earns £180,000 per week, as per Spotrac. But the renewal will see him earn as much as £12.4million a year. That equates to £238,000 each week – more than team-mates Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford.

However, Fernandes will still be some way off compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo. Spotrac claim the striker takes home £510,000 a week.

Fernandes and Ronaldo are preparing to represent Portugal in their friendly on Thursday night. The 2016 European Championship winners face Turkey in Porto.

Upon their return, the pair will likely start when United face Leicester on Saturday April 2.
