Man Utd: Anthony Martial will need to take contract hit to leave

Anthony Martial must take a big hit on money owed to him by Manchester United in order to leave this summer.

The Frenchman is currently on loan with Spanish outfit Sevilla. He is expected to return to Old Trafford at the end of the season after a disappointing spell there.

United value Martial at £35million but are prepared to listen to offers of around £25m – as long as the player agrees to compromise on any payments due to him in his contract. He earns around £11million annually and still has two years left to run on that bumper package.

If United decided to sell him, Martial, 26, is likely to demand a significant amount of that cash. However, with no clubs willing to pay United’s top price, along with Martial’s £240,000 salary, it appears both parties have little option but to strike a deal that allows them to go their separate ways.

Martial’s United career has flickered – and at times even threatened to take off – only for the forward to suffer another dip in form and find himself dropped.

Anthony Martial’s loan spell at Sevilla has not gone to plan

That situation came to a head before Christmas when he was accused by interim boss Ralf Rangnick of refusing to make himself available for selection.

Despite denying those claims, Martial was later loaned to Sevilla for the remainder of the season, seemingly with his United days numbered. And his spell in La Liga has hardly been a major success, with the hitman scoring just once.
