Florian Plettenberg has revealed Manchester United ‘appreciate’ three Victor Osimhen qualities in particular, but are wary of his ‘crazy’ price tag.
Osimhen has been one of Europe’s most heavily coveted assets over the past few seasons. Indeed, the striker has been in deadly form for some time.
In 24 games during his first season for Napoli, Osimhen scored 10 goals and provided three assists. The following season, he was in even better form – the Nigerian scored 18 goals and provided six assists in all competitions.
This season, it seems fair to say he is set to better that tally yet again. Indeed, in 11 Serie A games, he has scored nine goals – the most in the league – and provided three assists.
It is little surprise that Napoli are top of the league, given the electric form their star man is in.
However, the Azzurri are not safe from big clubs wanting to take him on board.
Indeed, some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs have registered an interest in the star striker. Man Utd have been most heavily linked, while Chelsea have also been credited with interest of late.
That United are on the lookout for a quality striker is obvious at the moment.
Osimhen ideal striker but United wary
Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure has left a void that they will want to fill with a quality attacker. As such, links between the club and Osimhen have ramped up of late.
Indeed, it seems the Napoli man would be a perfect signing for United.
Transfer insider Plettenberg has revealed the three traits of the striker’s that United are keen on. However, he also admitted the Red Devils are wary of Osimhen’s price tag, despite being very interested.
‘As reported he’s one of the top targets. But been told that MUFC doesn’t want to pay a crazy price around €100m. Bosses say: He is ready for the Premier League! What they appreciate about him: Speed, physicality. He’s a finisher!,’ he said on Twitter.
With that being said, it might be that they will wait until beyond January to see if anything changes regarding his valuation.
Indeed, it would seem unlikely that they would attempt to pay that sort of money in January in any case. However, given they are not shelling out for Ronaldo’s contract anymore, they have more funds available, so it’s a possibility.
It remains to be seen what happens with their interest in Osimhen.
If they do not go after him, it will be interesting to see if they do attempt to sign a striker at all. They have been linked with Joao Felix, who is reportedly open to move away from Atletico Madrid.
However, he would likely cost in the same region, so there is a question mark over whether they would pay for him.
