- Man United boss Erik ten Hag reportedly wants to add to his squad in January
- The manager spent over £200million on new players in the summer window
- Club chiefs however are focused on next summer as the next opportunity to buy
Erik ten Hag is reportedly keen on further strengthening his Manchester United squad in January and will hold meetings in the next couple of weeks to plan the club’s strategy.
The Red Devils are not in action until October 2 due to the break caused by game postponements following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
Ten Hag has admitted that he wants to use the break to discuss improvements to the squad in the next two transfer windows.

The Dutchman is still on the hunt for new players, despite spending over £200million on new signings during the summer transfer window, according to The Athletic.
He has said: ‘We have many meetings — we have to improve the structures in and around the club.’
‘And we will also look to the window in January or next summer already.’

The club has traditionally not been active during the January transfer window, with the last key first-team player being bought in that window being Bruno Fernandes in 2021.
However, the club’s officials such as owner Joel Glazer, chief executive Richard Arnold and football director John Murtough are reported to be more focused on next summer as the next major opportunity to add to the playing squad.
So far, Ten Hag’s signings have all positively impacted the team, despite an early blip in the season, in which the team lost their first two games of the season to Brighton and Brentford.

Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia have both made the defence look stronger after adapting to the speed of the Premier League. Whereas Christian Eriksen and Anthony have helped the Red Devils be more progressive going forward.
Man United are considered to have overspent on the players by many, and could try a more careful approach in the future to help have more flexibility in the market.
