Manchester United could make a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves once Erik ten Hag is appointed Old Trafford boss.
Dutchman ten Hag is expected to leave Ajax to become United’s new manager and a huge summer rebuild lies in wait in Manchester. The Mirror reports ten Hag will be handed a transfer budget of £200million in the summer, with 12 senior stars set to leave the club.
England internationals Harry Kane and Declan Rice are United’s top two targets, but Benfica forward Darwin Nunez and Wolves’ Neves are viewed as viable alternatives. Kane and Rice would wipe out United’s budget, so Nunez and Neves are being considered as ‘cheaper options’.

Neves has enjoyed a stunning season with Wolves and head coach Bruno Lage recently suggested a player of his calibre should command upwards of £80m in the transfer market. Lage said: “It’s not just about Wolves, these days which club can refuse a proposal of 80, 90 or 100 million pounds? Five or six.”
United are likely to face competition for Neves from Barcelona and Arsenal, while the 25-year-old Portugal international also has admirers at Liverpool. If United don’t want to meet Wolves’ price tag for Neves, they could offer one of their unwanted stars in part-exchange.
In addition to out-of-contract players Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata and Lee Grant, United are also looking to offload Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Alex Telles, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford according to The Mirror.
Whether any of Wan-Bissaka, Bailly, Jones, Telles, Martial or Rashford would be of interest to Wolves is up for debate. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below…
