Man Utd fans blast Diogo Jota for “shocking” miss after fine Bruno Fernandes cross

Manchester United fans have not held back in their criticism of Diogo Jota after the Liverpool star missed a golden opportunity for Portugal on Thursday night.

Playing against Turkey in the World Cup qualifiers, Red Devils playmaker Bruno Fernandes delivered an inch-perfect delivery to the back post from a wide free-kick. But the cross didn’t have the finish to match as Jota stretched out and directed his shot way over the bar.

United fans were furious with the miss by the former Wolves star as it meant that Fernandes was starved of an excellent miss, and they took to Twitter to vent their frustrations. One wrote: “Jota, how do you miss that? What a ball from Bruno.”

Another supporter added: “Bruno robbed.” Whilst another said: “That was an unbelievable delivery from Bruno, shocking miss Jota.” A third shared: “Jota how do you miss that. What a ball from Bruno.”

Thankfully for Jota, he was able to make amends later on in the match as he doubled Portugal’s lead. The 25-year-old powered his header into the near post past Ugurcan Cakir to give Fernando Santos’ side a two-goal advantage heading into the halftime break.

Jota has scored 13 goals in 26 Premier League appearances for Liverpool, somewhat replacing Roberto Firmino in Jurgen Klopp’s usual eleven. The playmaker has popped up with several important goals for the Anfield outfit, but his link-up play with the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane cannot be understated and he is a crucial part of the team now.

Liverpool sit just one point behind league leaders Manchester City in the league and it is sent up to be an enthralling end to the season. Discussing the prospect of sharing the Portugal dressing room with some City stars, he told Viaplay Football: “Obviously, we all know they have some Portuguese guys as well, we all meet up now in the international team. We always discuss that kind of rivalry. But when the game comes we’ll face it like every other one.”
