Former Manchester United flop Anderson once shut down jibes about his weight with a hilarious “sex” claim on social media.
The Brazilian celebrates his 34th birthday on Wednesday, having spent eight years at Old Trafford between 2007 and 2015. The Red Devils paid a fee in the region of £20million to sign him from Porto, but he struggled to live up to that price tag.
Though he won the Premier League title four times, his appearances grew rarer as his time in Manchester progressed. He featured just twice in his final six months at United before returning to his home country to sign for Internacional.
One of the main criticisms of him from United fans was his weight and struggles for fitness. But Anderson once fired back at those jibes over Instagram, denying the claims that he was fat.
As reported by the Mirror, it started when the former midfielder posted a picture of cakes being on display in a Patisserie on Instagram back in 2012. His followers responded by inundating him with replies showing their concerns about his possible weight gain because of it.
Anderson had a hilarious response to those concerns though, which immediately shut his critics down. The then United star replied to the comments with the line “Im not fat… Im sex hahahah” – though the assumption is he was meant to say “sexy”.

The concerns about his weight were unsurprising though, considering even his team-mates took notice of his love for fast food. That was revealed by former United right-back Rafael in his autobiography.
“We could be on the team coach and pass the services on the motorway and Anderson would jump up impulsively and yell ‘McDonald’s, McDonald’s.’ The guy was crazy, but I love him,” Rafael wrote.
“He picked up a lot of big injuries and then his problems with eating the way he did started to affect him. It was no coincidence that his best form came when he had a lot of games because that was when he couldn’t eat so much. I will say something about Anderson – if he had been a professional football player, he could have been the best in the world. But he would just eat whatever was put in front of him.”
