Man Utd have ‘no doubt’ over the transfer of Haaland from Dortmund next summer

Manchester United reportedly have “no doubt” over the signing of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund next summer.

Haaland was linked with a move to Chelsea this summer, but Dortmund were adamant they would keep their star striker for one more season.

And with the Blues landing Romelu Lukaku in a £97.5million deal, the path to Haaland looks a little clearer.

Other European giants are sure to come in for the Norwegian striker next summer, when his release clause is said to be around €75million, but Eurosport’s Dean Jones, insists United will be involved in talks with Haaland.

He told The Football Terrace podcast: “Manchester United want to be in that conversation, there’s no doubt about it.

“We won’t get an idea until the turn of the year as to where his mind is heading.

“Because, right now, he’s focused on having a ridiculous final season with Borussia Dortmund.”

United were rumoured to be close to signing Haaland in January 2020, with Solskjaer keen on a reunion with his compatriot, who he managed previously at Molde.

Solskjaer and Ed Woodward reportedly flew out to Austria and held positive talks with Haaland, only for his agent Mino Raiola to get involved and scupper a potential deal.

United weren’t keen on the buyout clause Dortmund subsequently agreed to, which paves a way for a move elsewhere.

The Red Devils’ relationship with Raiola remains strained because of Paul Pogba, but the club remain confident of signing Haaland due to Solskjaer’s previous with the forward.

Speaking earlier this year, Solskjaer admitted he still keeps in touch with Haaland.

“When you have had kids and players through as a coach, you follow them and I keep in touch with Erling,” Solskjaer said in February 2021.

“It’s great to see him become the player he has become and [how] he works to improve all the time.

“He’s a Dortmund player – we just wish him well there and let’s see what life will bring later on.

“You know I can’t speak about Erling because he’s at Borussia Dortmund, and it’s disrespectful to talk too much about it, apart from that I know him and I speak to him.

“Who wasn’t interested in him a year ago? Everybody would say you would take the best players in the world and Erling is a top player.”
