Erik ten Hag is inching closer to becoming Manchester United’s next manager after the club reached an agreement in principle with the Ajax boss.
The Dutchman has reportedly agreed a four-year deal with Old Trafford chiefs to succeed interim manager Ralf Rangnick, who is set to move into a consultancy role with the club. And the details of the final breakthrough, which came on Tuesday have now been revealed.
It comes as Cristiano Ronaldo’s role under Ten Hag appears to have become clear. And United are facing a dressing room backlash over their contract offer to Paul Pogba.

Erik Ten Hag and Manchester United have reached an agreement in principle for the Dutchman to become the Old Trafford outfit’s new manager.
Ten Hag has taken part in multiple in-depth interviews with United bosses and appears set to be announced as the club’s next permanent boss. A breakthrough in negotiations came on Tuesday as Ten Hag laid out his vision for the club – including his plans to transform the club’s style of play and need to have the final say on transfers.
But it remains to be seen when an official announcement will be made.

Cristiano Ronaldo could have a key role to play at Manchester United under Erik ten Hag
The Dutchman has been in charge at Ajax since December 2017 but quickly realised after his arrival at the club that he needed someone with experience and character to guide youngsters like Frenkie de Jong, Matthijs de Ligt, Hakim Ziyech and Donny van de Beek. and that led to the club signing Southampton forward Dusan Tadic in a £12.5million deal.
And the Serbian has since hit heights he’d never seen before during his career under Ten hag – which means his appointment could be good news for Ronaldo.

Manchester United are facing a dressing room backlash over their contract offer to Paul Pgba.
The French midfielder could leave for nothing come the end of the season when his contract expires – and United have now offered to make him the highest-paid player in the Premier League. Pogba could be handed an eye-watering £500,000-per-week deal to remain at Old Trafford – but the offer is said to have upset some figures in the United dressing room.
And a source at United says there will be mutiny behind the scenes at Old Trafford if Pogba ends up accepting the offer.
