Man Utd news LIVE: Cristiano Ronaldo picks up goalscoring award, De Jong reveals reason for brutal transfer snub

Good morning Man Utd fans

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is eyeing Benfica star Goncalo Ramos.

Ramos has scored eight goals in 12 games this season, prompting United to make contact with his representatives.

The striker is valued around £25million by the Lisbon giants, which the Red Devils would not go above — despite the player reportedly having a £100m release clause.

The Portugal Under-21 international was linked to Newcastle in the summer as manager Eddie Howe searched for a striker — and he is also being tracked by Bayern Munich.

However, Ten Hag does not have a big transfer pot available for January, having gone over budget this summer.

But there is still recognition of the urgent need for another forward after recent injuries to Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.

Meanwhile, Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong revealed he never wanted to join United in the summer.

De Jong was handed an ultimatum to either leave or take a major pay cut at the Nou Camp.

And so, a deal between the Red Devils and Barca, which would see him reunite with former Ajax boss Ten Hag, worth £72million was agreed.

But despite the financial dispute, the Blaugrana and the Netherlands international repaired the damage to their relationship – something the player wanted all along.

De Jong said: “I always wanted to stay at Barcelona and this is why I always remained calm in the summer.”

And United are working on a deal to sign Monaco star Vanderson but face competition from Barcelona.

According to Sport, Ten Hag is keen on signing a new right-back in the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old is reportedly valued at over £52m but the Red Devils have shown they are willing to pay high fees if their Dutch tactician believes it is worthwhile.

There could yet be one issue for United though, and that is that Barca are thought to remain interested after targeting the 21-year-old over the summer.

Finally, United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo revealed he is determined to lead Portugal after this winter’s World Cup in Qatar all the way to Euro 2024 when he will be 39 years old.

After being awarded a trophy at the Quinas de Ouro awards, Ronaldo said: “I hope to be a part of the Federation for a few more years. I still feel motivated, my ambition is high.

“My path in the national team is not over. We have many quality youngsters.

“I will be at the World Cup and I want to be at the European [tournament in] 2024.”
