Man Utd ‘close in’ on deal for ten Hag as new manager

Ralf Rangnick could reportedly take up a new managerial position when his time at Manchester United comes to an end this summer.

The German arrived at Old Trafford as interim manager following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking in November and had been expected to take up a consultancy role at the club at the end of the season. But recent reports have linked him with the vacant manager’s job with the Austria national team.

It comes following reports that the Red Devils are close to appointing Ajax’s Erik ten Hag as the club’s next manager – with a likely announcement date having been revealed. And United could follow Roy Keane’s advice and hand a first-team role to a promising academy graduate.

United to follow Keane’s advice

James Garner could be handed a first-team role at Manchester United when he returns from his loan spell with Nottingham Forest this summer.

The midfielder has impressed in the Championship as Steve Cooper’s side have made a push for the play-offs, and was also a key part of the club’s FA Cup run that saw them claim scalps over Arsenal and Leicester before being knocked out by Liverpool. And reports are now suggesting he could muscle his way into the United first-team in a move that would surely excite club legend Roy Keane following his praise of the playmaker.

After covering Nottingham Forest’s FA Cup defeat to Liverpool, Keane was full of praise for the United youngster and tipped him to benefit from his experiences in the Championship.

Ten Hag’s likely announcement date

Reports have suggested Manchester United are nearing an agreement with Ajax’s Erik ten Hag to become the club’s new manager.

It has been claimed that Richard Arnold and Joel Glazer think Ten Hag is the better long-term option for United to replace Ralf Rangnick and lead the Red Devils back to glory. But it is unlikely any announcement will come imminently, with Ten Hag unable to take the reins at Old Trafford until the end of the season.

That could mean United hold off making an official announcement until then – leaving fans waiting for the time being.

Rangnick linked with new job

Ralf Rangnick could be handed the opportunity to take charge of the Austria national team once his time as interim manager at Manchester United comes to an end, according to reports.

Recent reports have claimed that Peter Schottel, sporting director of the Austrian FA, flew to Manchester on a private jet on Monday to speak to Rangnick about taking charge of the national side after they failed to qualify for this year’s World Cup in Qatar. Although the OFB has since firmly denied that a meeting took place, Rangnick is set for a different role in the summer when a new manager is set to be appointed at Manchester United.

And the German could be set for a huge decision over his future, as he is due to take up a two-year consultancy role at Old Trafford when his time as interim manager comes to an end.
