One man who could feature is Anthony Martial, having played his way back into contention during pre-season.

The Frenchman was virtually written off last term after an underwhelming loan spell at Sevilla.

As United flew to Bangkok for the first leg of their pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia, Martial asked Fernandes to “give him some assists”.

The Portuguese responded: ” I will, for sure man, you know that we have that connection.”

Martial scored three goals on the trip… but none of them were made by Fernandes – a detail that didn’t go unnoticed by the forward.

In a clip captured by MUTV, Fernandes said: “Here we are again with Tony Martial.

“The guy of the tour, the man who scores loads of goals for us.

“How was the tour for you Anthony? Did you like it?”

Martial cheekily replied: “It was very good but you didn’t give me one assist.”

Fernandes had a quick-witted response, light-heartedly hitting back: “You are right, you know why?

“I’m putting everything on the league. First game of the season, OK?”

With Cristiano Ronaldo’s future up in the air, Martial is in a strong position to start on the opening day.
