So much so he even dropped one United player from his starting line-up after he twice turned up late to a team meeting, report The Athletic.

Ten Hag reportedly believes lateness is a symptom of declining standards and can eventually affect performance on the pitch.

Players and staff turning up late to meetings, training or team meals will also receive fines as Ten Hag looks to raise standards at the club.

It is a major part of Ten Hag’s strict regime which also includes a ban on alcohol during match weeks.

Known for his no-nonsense approach, the coach has also issued a stop on stars using their mobile phones at meal times.

So far the new rules have been well received by the likes of Bruno Fernandes.

Fernandes believes a strict approach is necessary and he is confident the Red Devils will be successful if they follow Ten Hag’s instructions.

He said: “I think we missed that [discipline] for a while and I think the way I see discipline is important.

“For me, discipline is not only the way you play on the pitch, the position that you have, what you have to do, it’s also off the pitch.

“Don’t be late for the meetings, don’t be late for the meals. I think that’s really important because if everyone is on time and someone comes late, he should be punished.

“I think it’s really good that he [Ten Hag] is doing that and, for me, amazing because I like to be on time so I won’t have problems with that.”
