Ralf Rangnick appears to be in the dark over whether he will have French duo Paul Pogba and Raphael Varane available for Saturday’s clash with Leicester.

Both players have suffered fitness complications while on international duty, with their regular training interrupted on Sunday. Pogba and Varane both featured in the 2-1 friendly win over Ivory Coast last Friday.

However, Varane was forced to withdraw just before the hour mark after suffering a “small problem with his foot”, France boss Didier Deschamps explained. The former Real Madrid man has struggled with injuries in his debut season at Old Trafford, but has enjoyed more regular spells in the team of late.

According to RTL France, Varane did train on Sunday, but only took part in ‘specific training’, suggesting he is still struggling with the knock. Rangnick will no doubt be desperate to have him back in contention against Leicester given Harry Maguire’s recent struggles.

Meanwhile, Pogba missed training altogether on Sunday due to a contusion on his left foot. It is not thought to be a serious injury for the midfielder, but the 29-year-old has also struggled for fitness all term, so his chances of featuring at the weekend are in question.

Pogba recently admitted that he is “sad” that United have failed to win any silverware in recent seasons as he remained coy on his future.

Moves to Real Madrid, Juventus and PSG have all been touted and could now materialise this summer with the player free to leave. United have allowed Pogba to run down his contract with talks currently shelved over a new deal, although the player himself insists no decision has been made on his next move.

“Nothing is decided on my future, there is nothing done,” he told Telefoot. “I can decide tomorrow, as I can decide during the transfer window. I want to come back, finish the season well.”

He added: “The season is not over yet, but almost because we don’t have any more titles to play for. I want to win titles, to play for something and this year and the last few years we haven’t won a title. It’s sad.”
