Man Utd to gazump Arsenal in Calvert-Lewin race? Rangnick sparks Pogba U-turn

Could Calvert-Lewin be off to Manchester United to join a revolution led by Paul Pogba?

DOM TO UNITED?
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been known as the third of three Arsenal striker targets for the last six months or so. The Gunners have wasted their time on Dusan Vlahovic, Alexander Isak doesn’t appear to fancy a move to north London, leaving the Everton star as the next man up.

Arsenal really need a striker. Manchester United don’t, not in the short term anyway. But The Sun has (sort of) claimed the Red Devils are interested in Calvert-Lewin.

The language used in the story is weak to the point we can pretty much immediatey dismiss it as bullsh*t, as the majority of you reading this will already have suspected.

What’s happened is they’ve taken an opinion piece from the Manchester Evening News, in which the writer talked up Calvert-Lewin as a possible signing for United and turned that into a transfer rumour.

‘Could Manchester United muscle in for reported Arsenal and Newcastle target  Dominic Calvert-Lewin?’ they open with. Followed by ‘that’s the speculation tonight over Everton’s England striker’. Come on guys, you’ve created the speculation.

POG-STAY
Paul Pogba is set for another U-turn in a career of U-turns at Manchester United.

The Sun claim the midfielder is now open to staying at United, if Ralf Rangnick remains in charge at Old Trafford.

Pogba has reportedly been ‘so impressed’ in a number of talks with Rangnick that he’s ready to give up the chance of joining Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer this summer and sign a new contract.

The World Cup winner is yet to play under Rangnick due to an injury picked up on international duty at the start of November, but Rangnick’s ‘vision’ for the future, and specifically Pogba’s role in it, is said to have persuaded the player to stay.

Rangnick has informed Pogba of his desire to build the midfield and team around him, and also believes the 28-year-old ‘could prove a galvanising force behind the scenes’; it’s hoped Pogba ‘would be inspired by this new leadership role’.

This news comes in the wake of a report that United are considering Rangnick for the permanent manager’s role and have put their search for an alternative ‘on hold’. They really should stick to the plan.

RAPHINHA ‘PRIORITY’ FOR MOYES
West Ham are very much in the Champions League qualification race and need to strike while they still have Irons in the fire.

And the Mirror claim they’re set to test Leeds’ resolve over Raphinha.

The Brazilian has been the subject of transfer speculation ever since arriving in the Premier League, with Liverpool the side most frequently linked with a move.

But Hammers boss David Moyes is thought to be keen on the winger in a bid to add more attacking depth to his squad in the January transfer window.

Raphinha is under contract at Leeds until 2024 and they are thought to be readying a new offer with a big pay rise to keep him.

But the report claims Moyes has made Raphinha the ‘priority’ ahead of the January deadline, and West Ham believe they can tempt him to join through the prospect of European football.
