That’s the view of former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who is surprised United didn’t go all out for midfielder Saul Niguez.
Both United and Chelsea were linked with the Atletico Madrid player during the summer transfer window but it was the Blues who firmed up their interest in the latter stages and secured a loan deal on deadline day.
United haven’t done too badly though with Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Ronaldo arriving through the door.
‘Chelsea have pulled off the deal of the window in Saul Niguez because he is a world-class player,’ Robinson told Football Insider.
‘I am very surprised that Man United didn’t push harder for him. They could really do with a player like him.
‘£34million with a small loan fee to start with? That is the deal of the window by a long way and I think United have missed out.
‘Don’t get me wrong, United have had a great window. The signing of Cristiano Ronaldo speaks for itself. Raphael Varane is their best signing in my opinion though.
‘He is an outstanding player who will bring a lot of stability to that back four.’
Varane and Sancho have already made their debuts for United but Ronaldo’s move from Juventus went through during the international break.
He’ll be hoping to lead the line though when United welcome Newcastle to Old Trafford on Saturday, September 11.
After getting booked in Portugal’s 2-1 win over Ireland on Wednesday night he is now suspended for next week’s World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan meaning he could return to training sooner than planned.
Ronaldo could end up having nearly a full week’s worth of training with his new team-mates before he makes his second club debut.
