Man Utd told to ‘fine’ Erik ten Hag and six players after woeful Man City defeat | Football | Sport

Manchester United should fine Erik ten Hag and six players after their defeat to Manchester City on Sunday, according to Gabriel Agbonalhor. The Red Devils were played of the pitch by their fierce rivals at the Etihad Stadium. And Erling Haaland and Phil Foden both scored hat-tricks as Pep Guardiola’s side claimed all three points, with Antony and Anthony Martial netting consolations for the visitors.

Manchester United had gone into their match with City on a high after winning five of their last six matches across all competitions.

But they were ruthlessly put in their place by Guardiola’s team, with Haaland and Foden both shining as the hosts ran riot.

Now, speaking to Football Insider, Agbonlahor has claimed United should fine Ten Hag for overseeing the derby disaster – as well as Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Scott McTominay, Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen.

“Some of these players are, for me, bottle jobs. They turned up when they had the home crowd on their side against Arsenal, against Liverpool,” he said.

“When it comes to away from home, it’s same old Man United. The players that Man United had, they should be doing a lot better.

Man Utd transfers: Two players stopped the club making more signings

“Nobody wanted the ball, they were giving it away, nobody showed composure, there were nervous passes from Rashford and McTominay. Fernades was woeful and Eriksen was dreadful.

“Varane and Martinez were pathetic. Martinez looked like a little boy trying to mark Haaland. There are problems there.

“Everyone was getting carried away by Man United’s decent form. You don’t lose 6-3 in a derby, you don’t let two players score a hat-trick against you.

“It’s the most embarrassing result I’ve seen in recent years from Man United. It just shows that you are an easy touch.

“All those players and the manager should get fined by the club for embarrassing the club across the world, to be honest.

What Ten Hag has told his players about the Glazers
The Glazers have five reasons to sell Man Utd

“Two players were laughing because they both got a hat-trick in the derby. If that doesn’t show how miles off it you are as a club then nothing will.”

United have now lost their last three matches against City.

And the defeat at the Etihad was a reality check for the Red Devils, showing exactly what they face as they battle to become the biggest club in the country once again.

Ten Hag was unhappy after the game, with the United boss accusing his players of a ‘lack of fight’ on enemy turf.

He said: “It’s quite simple, it’s a lack of belief.

“When you don’t believe on the pitch then you can’t win games, that is unacceptable.

“We get undisciplined at following rules and you get hammered, that’s happened today.

“For me it was a surprise. We were not on the front foot, we were not brave on the ball and there were spaces to play but we were not brave enough.

“All the credit to City, but it’s nothing to do with City, our performance was not good.

“It had to do with the belief as individuals and as team.

“From the first minute I felt it and at half-time we changed things and we changed attitude.

“We saw a different Manchester United after half-time and we scored goals, we created some more. On the ball we were more brave, we came in the opponent’s half and we scored three goals.

“In this moment I can’t think about positives. We let our fans down, we let ourselves down and we’re hugely disappointed.”

United are next in action against Omonia on Thursday night (5.45pm).

The Red Devils have played two Europa League games so far this term, beating Sheriff but losing to Real Sociedad.
