Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Jesse Lingard shared a light-hearted moment in Manchester United’s pre-season training session amidst rumours linking Lingard with a move away from Old Trafford.
Lingard was sent on loan to West Ham last season after falling down the pecking order under Solskjaer ‘s regime at United.
Lingard struggled at United, but he took West Ham by storm and ended the Premier League campaign as one of the league’s most in-form players firing the Hammers into the Europa League in the process.
He was on the periphery of Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2020, but was omitted from the final 26-men squad.
Footage released from the training sessions show Lingard is in good spirits and relishing his time in United colours.
He is seemingly in the United boss’ good books too.
A recent video showed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tipping the remains of his water bottle over the head of Lingard after a tough training session in the sweltering summer sunshine and a soaring UK heatwave. Lingard seemed to enjoy the refreshment and chuckled in response.
Lingard is now back at United after his omission allowed him to join up earlier than some of United’s other first team stars, and he seems to be enjoying the pre-season preparations.
Solskjaer has made his intentions clear about wanting to keep Lingard at the club and revealed his admiration for the player.
Speaking after United’s first pre-season game against Derby County he said: “Jesse has come back, he’s been bright and he wants to fight for his place.
“There’s nothing better than seeing players willing to fight for their place. Of course, what he did towards the end of the season, that is the true Jesse.
“That’s what we know he is capable of. I think we saw towards the end [of our own season] that we lacked maybe some options at times.

“He’s still in my plans. I expect him at Man Utd at the start of the season.”
However with Premier League interest from the likes of West Ham and Everton and Lingard’s contract expiring next summer, United may still look to sell their academy product this summer.
