Man Utd transfer news: Red Devils given Ruben Neves hope as Wolves boss speaks out | Football | Sport

Wolves manager Bruno Lage has admitted that Ruben Neves could join Manchester United for the right price this month. The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a move for the 24-year-old playmaker, who has two years left to run on his current deal at Molineux.

United have been credited with an interest in Neves since the beginning of the summer, with his future at Wolves still far from certain.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is believed to be targeting the addition of a new deep-lying midfielder with just days until the transfer window slams shut.

The likes of Eduardo Camavinga and Leon Goretzka have previously been mentioned in connection with the club, who have already signed three players so far this summer in Tom Heaton, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane.

It seems as though Neves is also on United’s radar, with reports claiming that he could be an option for Solskjaer and director of football John Murtough ahead of this month’s deadline.

Lage added further fuel to the fire at his press conference on Friday by declaring that although he would like to keep Neves, a late move elsewhere cannot be ruled out.

“All the top players we have are linked with all the clubs in the world,” said the Wolves boss when quizzed on the midfielder’s future.

“If you go to Portugal, the top players at Benfica are all linked with moves to Wolves. Ruben is happy here and we are happy with him.

“We are not thinking to let anyone leave, but every player has a price. You never know, if Messi changes to PSG then anyone can go.”

When asked if Wolves have received any bids for Neves, Lage replied: “Real proposals? Not yet.”

The Portuguese maestro is expected to play a significant role under Lage’s guidance this season as the west Midlands club go in search of a top-half finish.

He was selected to start Wolves’ defeat at the hands of Leicester City last week, with Jamie Vardy scoring the only goal of the game at the King Power Stadium.

Meanwhile, former United defender Paul Parker recently suggested that Neves would have every chance of thriving alongside the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba at Old Trafford.

“When you talk about someone striking the ball there’s only one player I can remember doing that, and that’s Paul Scholes,” Parker told the Talking Devils Podcast.

“If he was playing for a Manchester United with the quality around him you will see his game improve… players come to United and lift another level.

“Yes, more have struggled, but someone like Neves, coming to play with his countryman Fernandes, you’ll have someone who can play in deep areas and United have lacked that for a long time.

“It depends on the path United want to take. Do they want a big name with a good marketing value or a big name who’s a big footballer?

“If it’s the latter, then Neves is a good player to go and get.”
