Man Utd transfer news: United and Tottenham in ‘intense discussions’ for Yves Bissouma | Football | Sport

Manchester United and Tottenham are reportedly involved in ‘intense’ discussions to sign Yves Bissouma from Brighton. The midfielder has been a consistent performer in the Premier League in recent years. And a late move away from the Amex Stadium may now be on the cards.

Manchester United have had a quiet transfer window so far, with the club’s hierarchy focusing on outgoings rather than incomings.

Tottenham, meanwhile, have been frantically trying to add to their squad to please manager Antonio Conte.

Bissouma has been a consistent asset for Brighton in recent years, establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s best anchormen in the process.

And, now, RTL France journalist Fabrice Hawkins has claimed United and Tottenham, as well as Aston Villa, are trying to land the Brighton star.

“#Bissouma could leave Brighton,” he said on Twitter.

“Three clubs are trying to sign him: Aston Villa, Tottenham and Manchester United. The discussions are intense.

Villa have had a good transfer window so far, snapping up Lucas Digne and Philippe Coutinho from Everton and Barcelona respectively.

And Bissouma would be another positive step in the right direction for Steven Gerrard’s side.

What ultimately happens remains to be seen.

Speaking at the start of January, meanwhile, Brighton boss Graeme Potter recently admitted the club may struggle to keep Bissouma.

“Nope,” he said when asked if anybody had contacted the club about a deal for the Mali midfielder.

“Who knows. It’s the transfer window, you never know.

“The contract is something between the player and the club.

“We are comfortable with where we are at, we know the situation.

“From my perspective, I will just try to help him when he comes back from the AFCON and help him get back to his best. When he does that, he is a top player.

“We want to keep all our players but I also understand the way the market is and the way football is. We understand where we are in the football pyramid.

“You know that things can happen but my expectation is that we will have a strong squad come the end of the transfer window.”

Potter also insisted he was expecting to keep his Brighton squad together, too, saying: “I am really happy with the group we have got and it can get better.

“I don’t think we’ve reached the maximum potential as a group and I am looking forward to seeing how that develops.

“Then we will see if anything comes from the outside which we have to factor into, we’re open to that. We’re not a selling club, but you never know in this world.

“I’d expect all our players to be with us. There’s a lot of speculation out there, there’s nothing to report.

“The fact that there’s speculation out there means we’re doing something well. As a team and a club, which we are, we’re ok with that speculation.”
