Man Utd ‘try to tie’ up deal for €60m star ahead of Newcastle after Ten Hag told ‘no’ in summer

Manchester United are reportedly ‘trying to tie up’ a deal for Vanderson ahead of their competition before the January window opens.

Vanderson moved to Monaco from Gremio in January and his performances for the Ligue 1 side since have caught the eye of the European elite.

The Brazilian was close to a move to Brentford before his switch to the French side and reportedly wrote an email to the Bees to apologise for his last-minute change of heart.

According to Spanish publication Sport, Manchester United, Newcastle and Barcelona are interested in signing the 21-year-old in the winter window.

Barcelona sporting director Mateu Alemany reportedly contacted Monaco in the summer for an asking price and was quoted €60m, before they instead re-signed Hector Bellerin from Arsenal to cover at right-back.

But the Catalans remain interested along with the two Premier League sides.

Man United boss Erik ten Hag is said to be keen on adding a right-back to his ranks with Aaron Wan-Bissaka out in the cold.

The Dutch boss wanted Vanderson in the summer but was at the time told ‘no’ by the Old Trafford bosses, who are now said to be ‘trying to tie up’ a deal for the full-back before the January window opens.

But so too are Newcastle, with manager Eddie Howe looking to sign competition for first choice right-back Kieran Trippier.

With plenty of options on the table, or soon to be, the report claims this will be Vanderson’s last season at Monaco whatever happens.

Meanwhile, Mark Diemers, one of Ten Hag’s players in his time with FC Ultrecht says the new United boss wasn’t very good “on a human level” back in the day, and claims Feyenoord’s Arne Slot holds the edge over him for that reason.

“I can only talk from my time. I found Ten Hag insanely good tactically, so were his training sessions. I just didn’t think he was very good at that time, on a human level. But that was already six or seven years ago. I thought Slot was a lot stronger on a human level.

“Look at what kind of clubs he has worked at, so he must also have qualities on a human level. I still have contact with him via WhatsApp. Then he also comes across as very friendly to me. He will undoubtedly have grown on a human level as well.”
