A frantic search for new additions has seen United linked with a host of names in the wake of a dismal start to the 2022-23 season where the club have lost their opening two games.
While Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen have been recruited, 10 players have left the club permanently or on loan this summer, leaving Erik ten Hag short of options in key areas of the pitch.
While there are just over two weeks of the window remaining, The Telegraph report United remain determined to add to the squad with Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro among their targets.
While an ambitious move for the Brazil international has been scoffed at, the report claims Real have made it clear they will not stand in the 30-year-old’s way if he asks to leave.
Casemiro is reportedly ‘interested in hearing about United’s offer’ amid concerns over his first-team prospects at Real this season following the arrival of Aurelien Tchouameni.
Reports in Spain meanwhile suggest Casemiro has not ruled out the move with United prepared to double his current salary.
Ten Hag wants two midfielders and while the club have not given up hope of signing Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona, there is now an acceptance that a deal is unlikely.
The club have however made contact with the representatives of Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic over a move to Old Trafford.
United are also keen to bring in a forward, a right-back and a second-choice goalkeeper.
Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic has emerged as a target with the American growing frustrated with his lack of first-team opportunities in west London.
United are currently trying to convince the Blues to let Pulisic join them on a temporary basis, according to the report. Chelsea would prefer a permanent deal but United remain hopeful they can convince their rivals to do a deal.
With Aaron Wan-Bissaka not part of ten Hag’s plans, United want to sign Thomas Meunier from Borussia Dortmund. The club are prepared to pay a fee of around £12.6m for the Belgium international, who has previously been linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Barcelona’s Sergio Dest is another option at right-back with Barcelona ready to offload him this month.
