Man Utd’s 25-man squad by this time next year if Erik ten Hag signs four players | Football | Sport

Manchester United are poised to spend big in 2023. Erik ten Hag’s side require more investment, despite the Dutchman being given six signings back in the summer. So, with that being the case, it’s possible the squad will be reinforced with four more arrivals next term…

Manchester United backed Ten Hag in the summer as they look to bring the glory days back.

Christian Eriksen, Tyrell Malacia and Lisandro Martinez all joined before the season started, before consecutive defeats to Brighton and Brentford sparked the club into taking more action.

Casemiro was drafted in from Real Madrid, with United abandoning their pursuit of Frenkie de Jong. Temporarily at least…

And Antony and Martin Dubravka then joined from Ajax and Newcastle respectively as United bolstered late into the window.

They still want more, however. And Diogo Costa, Jeremie Frimpong, De Jong and Cody Gakpo are four players being linked at the current moment in time.

Express Sport will now take a look at how United’s 25-man squad could look by this time next year.

Man Utd transfers: Ten Hag is going to sign his own Haaland

Goalkeepers: Costa, De Gea, Bishop

United are poised to revamp their goalkeeping department next year as they prepare for a slog back to the top.

Dubravka’s loan spell isn’t expected to become permanent, especially with the Slovakia international struggling during the early stages of his spell with the club.

Dean Henderson is unwilling to play second fiddle to David De Gea, meaning the Nottingham Forest loanee will also be shown the door.

And though Tom Heaton is respected behind the scenes, the fact he doesn’t ever play makes a departure possible.

United are being linked with Porto star Costa, despite his iffy performances at the World Cup in Qatar, so it’s possible he’ll be brought in.

Defenders: Frimpong, Dalot, Maguire, Varane, Lindelof, Martinez, Shaw, Malacia

Ten Hag recently suggested Aaron Wan-Bissaka was still part of his plans. But, publicly, he’s not exactly going to say otherwise.

Frimpong would represent an upgrade and it’s feasible United will try and strike a deal for the Bayer Leverkusen star as they target a competitor for Diogo Dalot.

The rest of United’s defence should stay the same.

That means Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez as centre-back options.

And Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are poised for a battle when it comes to the left-back slot.

Midfielders: De Jong, McTominay, Eriksen, Casemiro, Savage, Fernandes, Iqbal

United agreed to put their pursuit of De Jong on hold when they recruited Casemiro from Real Madrid.

But interest remains and the Netherlands international would represent an upgrade on Fred, who is being linked with Paris Saint-Germain.

Donny van de Beek may also leave, with the former Ajax star failing to live up to expectations following his arrival in 2020.

United have high hopes for young duo Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage, who will be older and wiser in a year’s time.

Scott McTominay, Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes would then complete the Red Devils’ set of midfielders.

Forwards: Rashford, Antony, Sancho, Gakpo, Garnacho, Martial, Amad

United know they need a forward to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, who left the club by mutual consent last month.

And all signs point to Gakpo arriving, with Ten Hag chuckling when asked about the PSV Eindhoven star on Friday.

United are poised to welcome back Amad and they’re happy with how the Ivory Coast international has been performing at Sunderland, where he’s scored five goals from 16 Championship matches.

The rest of the Red Devils’ attack should stay the same, though it’ll be interesting to see what unfolds with Jadon Sancho amid his ongoing absence.

Marcus Rashford, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and Anthony Martial will all likely be at the club by next Christmas.
