Manchester United players set for loans

Manchester United full-back Brandon Williams is on the verge of joining Norwich City on a season-long loan.

Sources say the deal is ‘nearly done’ and Williams will become Norwich’s second permitted loanee after Billy Gilmour from Chelsea.

Nottingham Forest remain interested in re-signing James Garner on loan following his successful four-month spell with the Championship club earlier this year.

Garner and Williams, both 20, played in United’s behind-closed-doors friendly win over Burnley at Old Trafford on Tuesday afternoon. Garner has entered the last year of his contract but United have the option of an additional year.

United have already loaned out Axel Tuanzebe to Aston Villa, Facundo Pellistri to Alaves and Tahith Chong to Birmingham. Under-23 players Ethan Laird, Ethan Galbraith, Dishon Bernard, Will Fish, Reece Devine and Nathan Bishop have also embarked on loans in the Football League and National League.

United are prepared to let Amad head out on loan and centre half Teden Mengi could also go on loan again after a productive period at Derby in the second half of last term.

United have still not sold a single senior player and have a 33-man squad amid interest from Flamengo in Andreas Pereira and West Ham United in Jesse Lingard.

Lingard, 28, scored nine goals in 16 games on loan for West Ham earlier this year and is unlikely to get regular football at United, with his contract due to expire next summer.

Pereira, 25, spent last season on loan at Lazio, where he started just three times in Serie A, and he has been marginalised at United since the club bought Bruno Fernandes in January 2020.

Phil Jones is surplus at United but, like last year, is effectively unsellable as he has only just returned from another long-term injury. Jones, who also appeared in the friendly with Burnley, has not played a competitive game since January 24 2020 and is only fifth-choice centre-back as Tuanzebe is on loan.
