Never-before-seen footage shows Man Utd’s 1999 Champions League comeback from new angle

Remarkable never-before-seen footage of Manchester United’s incredible 1999 Champions League triumph has gone viral after being released on the 23rd anniversary of United’s famous win.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s side clinched a history-making treble with a late, late turnaround at the Nou Camp to leave Bayern Munich stunned. The German giants were leading in stoppage time, but United struck twice in the dying moments of the match through Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to seal a famous 2-1 victory.

United’s stunning fightback saw the club lift their first European trophy since the Sir Matt Busby era. Ferguson’s side also won the FA Cup and claimed the Premier League crown that season to cap one of the most successful campaigns in the club’s storied history.

23 years on from that famous night in Barcelona, United fan Thomas Coxhead has shared some previously unseen footage of United’s unbelievable fightback.

Thomas’ father, Stephen Coxhead, was in attendance at the Nou Camp and captured United’s late, late show on a camcorder that he had snuck into the match.

Coxhead’s remarkable clip captures both of United’s last-gasp goals and the wild celebrations that ensued just yards before the goal from United’s delirious fans. Unsurprisingly, the video flew online and has already clocked up more than 80,000 likes in 24 hours.

Earlier this year, one of United’s goal heroes, Sheringham, revealed that Ferguson had warned his side at half-time – where they trailed 1-0 – that they might never get another crack at winning a European crown.

Sheringham told The Manchester Evening News: “The main thing was just Sir Alex coming into the dressing room. He said look, you’ve seen that trophy out there on the halfway line. If you don’t win this we won’t, we won’t be able to touch it.

“You might not ever get this close again. So make sure you give everything in your power an individual performance and as a team performance to make sure that you know, try and win this game. Don’t leave anything out there. No ifs and buts when you come off the pitch and just make sure you give everything.”
