Scott McTominay drops Manchester United return hint ahead of Newcastle fixture

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has dropped a hint on social media that he could soon be back in action after recently undergoing minor surgery on an ongoing injury problem.

The United academy graduate, who was left out of the Scotland squad over this current international break as a result of the problem, was forced to miss the 1-0 win over Wolves last weekend, confirming that he had undergone surgery in the run up to the clash at Molineux.

McTominay started the 5-1 opening day victory over Leeds, but was only able to play the final 14 minutes of the clash with Southampton a week later, with United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ahead of kick-off confirming that the Scot was struggling with an ongoing issue.

Ahead of the clash with Wolves, McTominay said: “Just to let you all know I’ve had minor surgery on an issue which has needed managing for the last couple of months,” the Scotsman began

“I hate missing games so to be missing Wolves on the weekend & the international break is so disappointing but that’s part & parcel of the game.

“Wishing all the boys the best of luck and I will be back sooner than you think.”

A swifter return than anticipated could now be the case following the midfielder’s latest Instagram post. The Scot has uploaded an image of himself celebrating a goal and posted two emojis, with one of them saying: “Soon” — suggesting that he will be back in action sooner rather than later.

McTominay has the potential to be a key player for United this season given their current issues in the defensive-midfield area of the team.

Solskjaer will almost certainly provide a fresh update on the Scot’s progress when he faces the media later this week ahead of Saturday’s clash with Newcastle United at Old Trafford.
