Ten Hag ‘could be stuck with’ £50m star at Old Trafford

Manchester United will not get their money back for right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, claims transfer insider Dean Jones.

The 24-year-old is being linked with a return to Crystal Palace following his £50m move from there to Old Trafford back in 2019, but Jones thinks there is a good chance that he will be a part of Erik ten Hag’s team next season.

What is the latest news involving Wan-Bissaka?

According to The Athletic, Palace are considering making a move to bring Wan-Bissaka back to Selhurst Park this summer.

The Eagles currently have Joel Ward, Nathaniel Clyne and Nathan Ferguson on their books but are thought to want more competition, with the last of that trio having struggled with injury since arriving in south London.

Wan-Bissaka really impressed in his final season at Palace, averaging 3.7 tackles per league game (via WhoScored), so it is no surprise that the Premier League outfit are interested in re-signing him.

A permanent switch, however, does not look to be on the cards, with The Athletic stating a loan move is more likely.

What has Jones said about Wan-Bissaka?

Given that United probably are not going to get the £50m they paid for Wan-Bissaka back, Jones can see the former England U21 international remaining at United and Ten Hag trying to help him fit into his system.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the football journalist said: “You won’t get your money back on Wan-Bissaka at this point, so you have to weigh up whether it’s actually worth selling him. Ten Hag might be able to alter his playing style to fit in with his system. I think he’d probably be looking into that.”

Should United keep hold of Wan-Bissaka?

Offensively, Wan-Bissaka is obviously not as good as the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Reece James, who are probably the two best attacking right-backs in the country.

The former Palace man is yet to score or create a goal in the Premier League this season, so going forward is an area of his game he needs to work on. Defensively, however, there may not be a better full-back in the entire division.

“I think Aaron is one of the best one-against-one defensive full-backs in the world,” former United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was quoted as saying by the club’s official website last year.

With the above in mind, Wan-Bissaka still has something to offer to this United side, but his future could largely depend on Solskjaer’s permanent successor.
