Ten Hag ‘ready to move on’ 232-game star from Old Trafford

Manchester United ace Jesse Lingard is set to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season and will not entertain signing a new contract as ‘both parties are now ready to move on’, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Red Devils will enter a new era when Erik ten Hag moves into the dugout at the campaign’s climax, but it appears he will be unable to include Lingard in his plans.

What’s the latest news involving Lingard?

Lingard may have been on Manchester United’s books since he was just seven years old, but it seems he has entered the final weeks of his time at Old Trafford.

The creative midfielder’s £80,000-per-week contract will expire in the summer and, as it stands, he will not put pen-to-paper on a fresh agreement.

Despite suggestions that ten Hag would like to speak with Lingard when he heads to the red half of Manchester from Ajax, the 29-year-old reportedly has no interest in holding talks with the Dutchman and is resigned to leaving his boyhood club.

It comes after Lingard was left upset due to not being given an Old Trafford farewell during the Red Devils’ final home match of the season as they overcame Brentford on Monday, leading to an outburst from his brother.

Lingard is now understood to be at the centre of a transfer tug-of-war involving Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan and Newcastle United as they all battle it out for his signature.

What has Pete O’Rourke said about Lingard?

O’Rourke was shocked that Ralf Rangnick, who was appointed as Manchester United’s interim manager last November, did not give Lingard a chance to say goodbye to the Red Devils fans by handing him a substitute appearance against Brentford.

However, the journalist believes the 32-cap England international is ready to part ways with his boyhood club.

O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “It was a bit of a surprise that the gesture wasn’t made for Jesse Lingard to be given that opportunity.

“But I think both parties are now ready to move on, with Lingard to a new club and Manchester United starting a new regime under Erik ten Hag.”

Has Lingard been a success at Old Trafford?

Lingard may have found his opportunities limited in recent years, with him only being handed 548 minutes of action this season, but there is no doubting that he has made his mark at Manchester United.

Over the course of 232 appearances, the academy graduate has registered 35 goals and 21 assists, emphasising how he has been a threat in the final third of the pitch.

Lingard also got his hands on the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, Europa League and Community Shield, so he has enjoyed plenty of memorable moments with the Red Devils.
