Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is ‘really pushing’ the Glazers to hand Marcus Rashford a new contract at Old Trafford, respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has told GiveMeSport.
Although the Red Devils have triggered a 12-month extension to the winger’s deal after the agreement was initially due to expire next summer, there is still uncertainty over his long-term future.
Man United transfer news – Marcus Rashford
According to the Daily Star, Manchester United are looking to make Rashford the highest-paid player at the club by preparing a £400,000-per-week contract offer.
The report suggests the Red Devils are eager to tie the England international down to fresh terms as Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have stepped up their interest after a £300,000-per-week proposal was turned down.
But Rashford has hit back at the article and posted ‘Can we please stop making up these stories?’ on social media while insisting his focus is solely on qualifying for the Champions League.
Despite that, Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth recently told GiveMeSport that the academy graduate ‘loves it at Manchester United’ and wants to stay with his boyhood club.
Rashford’s current agreement is worth £200,000-per-week and he has just returned to Old Trafford after featuring for England at the World Cup prior to the Three Lions’ quarter-final exit.

What has Fabrizio Romano said about Rashford?
Romano understands that ten Hag is desperate to see Rashford commit his long-term future to Manchester United.
As a result, the transfer guru is aware that the Dutchman is holding discussions with the Red Devils’ hierarchy over the situation.
Romano told GiveMeSport: “Erik ten Hag is really pushing for Marcus Rashford. He considers Rashford to be a top player for the present and future.
“Erik ten Hag is insisting a lot with the board and with the owners to have Marcus Rashford sign a new deal as soon as possible.”
Should Man United prioritise handing Rashford a new contract?
Extending Rashford’s current deal by another year has given Manchester United breathing space as it means he cannot sign a pre-contract agreement with an overseas club at the turn of the year, but they should still enter negotiations over fresh terms.
Ten Hag was appointed as the Red Devils’ boss in April and the 25-year-old has enjoyed an upturn in form under the Dutchman.
According to WhoScored, Rashford is Manchester United’s leading Premier League goalscorer this season, having found the back of the net four times, while Christian Eriksen is the only teammate to have amassed a greater number of assists.
He has now got his name on the scoresheet 101 times for the Red Devils and also made an impact at the World Cup, scoring every 49 minutes in Qatar, so a lucrative new contract ought to be forthcoming.
